Homework
Reception (EYFS)
Pupils in reception will be set weekly reading and sound recognition homework.
Years 1-2
Reading – Children are provided with a reading book linked to their current reading ability. We ask that you read with your child at least 3 times per week and record this in their reading record book.
We love to celebrate reading in Butterfly Class and we will be following the reward for reading along with the rest of the school. We hope to have lots of children who have read 45 or more times to be in with a chance of winning the autumn term’s voucher.
Books will be changed weekly on a Monday. This allows for your child to read the book more than once with you.
This encourages fluent reading and allows for deeper understanding. Please take time to talk about the book and ask your child questions about the book. As your child becomes more fluent, as the week progresses, explore expression and use of punctuation to make their reading sound interesting. There is usually a page at the very back of the book with ideas to support this deeper understanding.
Maths and English homework - Homework will be set weekly and will be sent home in your child’s purple homework book on a Friday. This can then be completed and returned any time but ready for the following Thursday so that the books can be made ready to be sent out again on the Friday. The maths and English will alternate weekly with occasional changes to other subjects which link to our learning in class.
Spellings – Your child has a spelling list on a Friday that they should practise at home ready for a weekly word check on the following Friday. These words are linked to our weekly phonics lessons or the Yr2 spelling patterns.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
Year 6
Pupils will be set their homework on the SeeSaw app. You should have received a login for your child/ren from their class teacher. If you have not received them please contact them through the school office.
Pupils will be set Maths and English homework each week. Maths homework will be set on the Smash Maths app which is a retrieval program. This program allows pupils to revisit prior learning and provides staff with feedback so that they can plan follow up activities in class. Login details for Smash Maths will be provided by your child’s class teacher.
Pupils will also be set weekly spelling and times table homework alongside regularly reading at home.
The schools expectation for all pupils is that they read at home at least 3 times a week. Please remember to sign your children’s reading record so that they can progress on the schools reading initiative and earn prizes for their hard work.
If you have any questions regarding homework please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
